Confidential Contact Persons
Scyllus wants its members to enjoy diving in a safe and pleasant environment. An important part of this is providing a safe sporting atmosphere. One of the ways we do this is by appointing confidential contact persons.
The confidential contact persons at Scyllus are:
- questions, comments, or complaints are communicated to them by email whenever possible.
- Please only use the phone numbers in urgent situations!
What Is a Confidential Contact Person?
A confidential contact person is someone appointed by the association as a point of contact for anyone experiencing inappropriate behaviour during diving activities [such as bullying, insults, sexual harassment, discrimination]. The boundaries between what is considered “appropriate” and “inappropriate” differ from person to person. One person may laugh at certain jokes or comments, while another may feel uncomfortable. What may feel like an encouraging pat on the shoulder to one person could feel unpleasant or unnecessary to someone else.
These types of situations can raise emotions and questions, even if they happen to someone else and you only witness them. Talking about it can be difficult, but it is important. The confidential contact person listens to your story, helps explore possible solutions, and informs you about potential next steps and relevant organisations.
The confidential contact person is not a board member and is therefore independent. To further guarantee this independence — and because not everyone feels equally comfortable with the same person — Scyllus has chosen to appoint two confidential contact persons.
Together, we aim to create a safe sports environment. The confidential contact person is available for everyone: divers, parents, spectators, instructors and volunteers, board members and all others involved with the association.
Because we value the opinions of our members, the confidential contact person may contact individuals who leave the association or a course prematurely. Only generalised and anonymised information from exit conversations may be shared with the board to help improve the association and learn from members’ experiences and feedback. No information from other conversations will be recorded or shared without the explicit consent of all involved parties.
